Downtown Art believes in the capacity of artists as creative partners in building an equitable, just, connected community.
For many years, Downtown Art was known for its work with teens, who created theater in collaboration with artist Ryan Gilliam. The concerns of that work – learning, engagement, empowerment, and community building – are all central to the work we are now moving forwards as Ryan shifts her role and practice and the work of other artists is supported at DTA.
Downtown Art is shaping its future around how it can support artists with a civic, social, and/or community engaged practice. We are interested in the ways that the field of work grows, deepens, and gets practiced – both in our own neighborhood and in the city as a whole.
