Open Platform & Queer/Disability Arts Meet-Up
Sat May 18 (3pm-6pm)
Join other disabled creatives, care squads, queer/trans/gnc folks, survivors, and allies for a sober meetup and crip cuddle puddle in a comfy interactive theater space, featuring soft foam seating, floor cushions, sensory anchors, and reading material.
Participate in activities for two facilitated by artists Jeff Kasper and Janae’ Sumter. Drop in any time from 3-6. This event is open to the general public.
In the spirit of all the events in the series: Please bring a partner, friend, colleague, caretaker/giver, or family member, with whom you trust but with whom you have never shared in length what makes you feel safe.
Give & Take Care was supported in part through a commission from Downtown Art. Earlier iterations of this project’s interactive material was incubated in residency with Art Beyond Sight, Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts Project Space, and received critical mentorship from Social Practice Queens. Special thanks for the emotional support and community of the Art & Disability Residency and Disability Arts NYC Taskforce (DANT) network and Downtown Art staff.
